Photgraphing kiddos

As a photographer, and as a parent, I’ve had to learn that great shots come with patience. LOTS of patience. And lots of time and lots of shots which aren’t "the one".

Babies aren’t too cooperative when you want them to do something... and it doesn't always get better with age! You have to let them guide the shoot while it’s just your job to catch what they decide to do.

I tried way to hard to take birthday pictures of Kolt. I dressed Kolt in his new clothes, did his hair (Even brought hair gel with me so I could make sure it looked great! Ya, I'm a crazy mom like that!), bought a bouquet of balloons and we were off to the park.

Well... he loved the balloons at the store and hated them at the park! Go figure. As I was trying to get the shot set up he let go of the balloons, sat on the ground, waved and said in a cute voice, "BYE BYE BYE BYE BYE BYE balloons! Look Mama! BYE BYE!"

What did I do? I jumped up and down to try and catch them! I spent 10 bucks on balloons and they were flying away before my eyes!!! I glanced over at Kolt and he was giggling his head off! I am sure Mommy looked real silly! UHH!

I decided to forget the birthday pics, we will just play with the ducks! And you know what? The pics I took of him running, quacking at the ducks and playing with a stick are some of my favorite pictures!!

Quick post while Kolt naps!

I have been slacking on posts. Sorry! Life has been busy and Kolt has turned into a wild monkey! He has learned to use chairs, step stools and anything else he can to get ON and INTO cabinets and drawers. He has also learned how to take lids off. This week he has poured a bottle of water on our wood coffee table and a bottle of red Gatorade on the living room carpet! I have had my hands full!!

Well....I am very excited about my Easter Mini Shoot Saturday. I will be spending tomorrow getting a few extra things and I will be ready! Thank you again to everyone who signed up! You guys are awesome.

Also, I am thinking about planning a Mother's Day Mini-Shoot. I think I will spend an entire day at a park shooting. But, I am not 100% on anything yet. I will start working on that as soon as we are done with Easter. Let me know if you have any thoughts or ideas. I would love to hear them!!

AND.... My baby is turning two at the end of the month! WHAT!!??!! Where has the time gone? I am going to try and get all the odds and ends of his "race car" party done this week too. Hobby Lobby... here we come!!

This is a busy month for my family and I love it that way!

Cookie post coming soon!

I hope everyone is having a relaxing Sunday.

What's for dinner?

Baked Ziti

dry ziti pasta
onion chopped
1 pound lean ground beef or Italian sausage
2 (26 ounce) jars spaghetti sauce or make home made sauce (recipe below)
provolone cheese sliced
sour cream
mozzarella cheese shredded
grated Parmesan cheese

Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Add ziti pasta, and cook until al dente; drain.

In a large skillet, brown onion and meat. Add spaghetti sauce, and simmer.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Butter a 9x13 inch baking dish.

Layer: 1/2 of the ziti, Provolone cheese, sour cream, 1/2 sauce mixture, remaining ziti, mozzarella cheese and remaining sauce mixture. Top with grated Parmesan cheese.

Bake for 30 minutes in the preheated oven, or until cheeses are melted.

*I made my own spaghetti sauce for the first time. It was easy and turned out pretty good. In a large heated pot with a little olive oil I added tomato puree, one can of crushed tomatoes, one can of tomato paste, chopped onion, mushrooms, chopped bell pepper, grated Parmesan cheese, salt, pepper, garlic powder, parsley and basil. I added 2 bay leaves (don't forget to remove before you serve). The last hour of cooking I added about 4 cloves of garlic. I cooked this on a very low heat for about 4 or 5 hours. (I think squash and zucchini would be great in this sauce! Just a thought!)

Random thoughts....

In no particular order!

  • Thank you to everyone who has signed up for Easter Pictures! I am so excited about meeting new people, seeing old friends and catching up with past clients! You guys are great! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

  • Kolton is napping... which means I run around the house like a crazy person trying to get everything I need to get done for the day in one hour and thirty minutes!! So far I have returned emails, cleaned the house, made baked ziti for tonight and I am blogging.... Thank you coffee!

  • Oh my gosh... it's almost Kolt's birthday! WOW... I have so much to do. I need to get invites made before today is over! YIKES...

  • I wish I was vacationing in Jamaica right NOW! FYI: If you are planning a vacation any time soon.... visit Ocho Rios, Jamaica and stay at the RIU. It's amazing. You will love it!! Trust me.

  • This crazy West Texas weather is about to drive me nuts! Wind, dirt and rain.... go away! I am so tired of re-scheduling shoots and sneezing.

  • I need to lose weight.... I sure wish I was better at working out and dieting! UH! Any tips?
  • I need to finish editing pics when Kolt goes to bed tonight!
  • Seeing Kolton smile and hearing his laugh can make anything better! ANYTHING!
  • I love when people leave comments on the BLOG!

I guess... that's about all for now!

Thanks for listening!

New pictures and toddler freak-outs!

It's been a while since I have taken any pictures of my handsome little model! We took advantage of our beautiful weather today and played outside all afternoon. We had so much fun!

Check out the pics:

Also, Kolt has been having temper tantrums. A lot of them! Man, it's so hard to deal with. We spank him, but it does not work. I spank him and either he says, "Ouch", giggles and runs off playing OR he laughs in my face OR he grabs my nose and yells, "honk, honk!" and giggles! I thought it was just me. But, he does the same to Brandon. Spanking is not working! I have found that putting him in his room and telling him to calm down and only come out when he is going to be good has worked. He actually sits in his room for a few minutes, calms down and comes out happy. I'm shocked that this works... but it does! Most of the time. Also, I ignore it. I think that I am getting so use to it that it that I don't even hear it anymore! Sad, I know.

I use to wonder about parent's when I saw kids out in public throwing tantrums.

AND THEN I HAD ONE!

I need advice. What works for you? What do you do when it happens in public?
